"Moda in Luce 1955–1975" Kicks Off in Rome: Between Glamour and Innovation

If you happen to be in Rome and are interested in Fashion History, you should not miss this fabulous exhibition at the Capitoline Museums:  Between Glamour and Industrial Innovation, an exhibition featuring photography, multimedia displays, and sartorial masterpieces, chronicles the moment Italy’s capital transformed into the global capital of fashion—and, by extension, of cinema and the cultural imagination. It runs at the Capitoline Museums – Centrale Montemartini in Rome (Via Ostiense 106) from June 26 to November 15, 2026. The exhibition captures the era when the "Made in Italy" brand emerged from the country to gain worldwide renown. The exhibition is organised by Archivio Luce Cinecittà in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and curated by Fabiana Giacomotti. The exhibition takes us through a period marked by an explosion of ideas, names, brands, creativity, and industrial growth "Big Bang" whose success, allure, and magic still resonate today.

It features 150 vintage photographs—mostly from the vast Luce Historical Archive—alongside five video stations showing rare footage previously unavailable to the public. Also on display are objects, documents, fabrics, and original garments (many never before exhibited) created by legendary names: Valentino Garavani, Karl Lagerfeld for Fendi, Federico Forquet, the Fontana Sisters, Giovanna Caracciolo-Carosa, Valentina Visconti, Irene Galitzine, Fernanda Gattinoni, Roberto Capucci, Maria Antonelli, Patrick de Barentzen, Renato Balestra, André Laug, Emilio Federico Schuberth, Gabriellasport, Antonio De Luca, Angelo Litrico, Domenico and Agostino Caraceni, Pino Lancetti, and Laura Biagiotti.

The images capture fashion shows, ateliers, photo essays, interviews, the jet set, the behind-the-scenes work, and glamour. Running parallel to this is the world of cinema, experiencing a unique golden age during the “Dolce Vita” years, defined by stars, icons, and epoch-making films. It was a whirlwind of ideas, brands conquering the globe, and craftsmanship transforming into art. This is a journey for haute couture and entertainment enthusiasts alike—for those who lived through the era and for younger generations—inviting everyone to relive the glamour, style, charm, fashion, and communication of an Italy that continues to set the standard for how to dress and how to live.
