Gucci Pre-Wimbledon Event

Gucci held an intimate dinner at Claridge’s Restaurant in London last Monday night to mark the debut of its Made in Italy campaign starring global brand ambassador Jannik Sinner. Ahead of his sixth consecutive Wimbledon appearance, the world No. 1 tennis player was joined by a Gucci-dressed guest list that included Fabien Frankel, Naomi Ackie and Salma Hayek, who delivered the evening’s standout fashion moment. Guests were welcomed with signature Negronis before sitting down to a summery menu of cucumber gazpacho and grilled Dover sole. Dessert — lemon sorbet with candied lemon, strawberries and mint — offered a polished tribute to Wimbledon’s most classic flavours. If Sinner felt any pressure before returning to SW19, it did not show on Monday night; he appeared relaxed as he chatted with Ackie and Frankel.

Earlier that day, the Kering-owned luxury house revealed its latest Made in Italy campaign, featuring Sinner in crisp white tailoring against a green-and-red backdrop inspired by Gucci’s signature palette and the Italian flag. Posed in a stance that recalls a tennis swing, Sinner appears at the centre of imagery that highlights both his status as one of Italy’s most recognisable athletes and the broader questions of identity that have accompanied his rise. With his red curls, fair complexion and reserved manner, Sinner has often challenged familiar stereotypes of Italian style and personality. Gucci’s campaign reframes that contrast, presenting a more layered and contemporary expression of Italian identity. Rooted in an Italian spirit, the house channels its own distinct aesthetic through Sinner, whose sense of self requires no explanation.

For the dinner, which served both as a campaign celebration and a toast to his Wimbledon return, Sinner chose a more relaxed all-black look. He also expressed enthusiasm for the direction Demna is taking at Gucci, noting that the designs feel wearable in everyday life and appeal to people across generations. Looking ahead to Wimbledon, Sinner suggested that Gucci would remain part of his routine, mentioning the Gucci bag he carries with him as a kind of lucky charm. With the tournament approaching, preparation was firmly on his mind as well. He described long, demanding days of physical training and acknowledged that the lead-up had not been easy, while adding that he feels in good shape and is looking forward to competing.
