Festa della Repubblica at Rome

Republic Day 2026 will be celebrated in Italy on Tuesday, 2 June. In 2026, the occasion marks the 80th anniversary of the institutional referendum held on 2–3 June 1946, when Italians voted to replace the monarchy with a republic. Main events in Rome include a  Military Parade. As tradition dictates, the well-known military parade will take place along the Imperial Forums. There will be the famous Frecce Tricolori Flyover with the  National Aerobatic Team performing its spectacular display over Rome, colouring the sky with the Italian flag.

And at the Altar of the Fatherland  a Ceremony;  the celebrations begin at 9:15 a.m. with the President of the Republic laying a laurel wreath at the Altar of the Fatherland.

Planning a picnic for 2 June (Republic Day) is a beloved Italian tradition. As summer begins, parks and nature reserves become perfect settings for enjoying the day outdoors with family and friends. For your picnic menu, it’s best to choose cold dishes or foods that are easy to eat by hand and reflect Italian culinary tradition. For starters, Genoese focaccia or rustic pizza is an excellent option. For the main course, consider rice salad, cold pasta salad, or a classic eggplant parmigiana. For dessert, fruit tarts or a soft ring cake work beautifully. To drink, chilled white wine, regional sparkling wines, or a light sangria are ideal choices.
