Porto Ercole - the chic Tuscan coastal retreat loved by Rome's stylish elite

Discover Porto Ercole, the chic coastal retreat on the stunning Tuscan shores that has captured the hearts of Rome's stylish elite. This picturesque destination is not just a getaway; it’s where fashion meets the sea, offering a perfect blend of elegance and relaxation. Whether you're wandering through charming streets, savoring exquisite local cuisine, or soaking up the sun on pristine beaches, Porto Ercole promises an unforgettable experience for those seeking a touch of sophistication and a taste of la dolce vita.  Meanwhile, tourists crowd the Amalfi Coast, while those in the know enjoy fabulous accommodations and exquisite cuisine at a more reasonable cost along the Argentario coast. Both Porto Ercole and Porto Santo Stefano are picturesque fishing towns. It's no surprise that local restaurants specialize in seafood, reflecting the region's rich maritime heritage.

Photographed by Slim Aarons as part of his "Dolce Vita in Italy" series, this area has drawn the likes of Jackie Kennedy and other notable figures. Additionally, its premium harbour marina attracts mega-yachts owned by A-list Italians, further highlighting its allure. Its Centro Storico, with cobblestone streets and discreet piazzas, is located just a step from the seafront Lungomare, which is stocked with cafes, restaurants, and shops inviting you to stroll and linger for an outdoor aperitivo with sea views.

The Romans have kept their favourite holiday playground a secret: Monte Argentario. This peninsula in southern Tuscany is where fashionable Romans spend their summers. With the recent opening of the trendy Hotel La Roqqa, Italian insiders have a new reason to flock to the area. A prime example of the local allure is experiencing an aperitivo on the terrace of the elegant Hotel, where well-dressed Romans engage in one of their favourite rituals—the Aperitivo hour.

La Roqqa - Porte Ercole

La Roqqa, a design hotel with 55 rooms, reopened last year after a three-year renovation. It fuses la dolce vita influences with Scandinavian minimalism, featuring a striking all-white lobby with a sculptural staircase and designer furniture. Rooms are decorated in three color themes—Siena Earth, green, and blue—while suites boast neutral tones and designer pieces, ensuring stunning sea and garden views. Marble bathrooms include luxurious Ortigia products, and sustainable features like filtered water taps are provided. Dining options include Scirocco, the rooftop restaurant offering refined Tuscan cuisine with locally sourced ingredients, and the Isolotto Beach Club. The iconic "Spaghetti 8 Pomodori," made from eight tomato varieties grown in the hotel’s garden, exemplifies the organic and sustainable philosophy of the kitchen.

Isolotto is La Roqqa’s Beach Club venue, is where guests can enjoy summer days surrounded by nature. Here, you can relax in the sun, swim, and socialize in a true "vacation" style.

Il Pelicano - Argentario

Il Pellicano has been one of Italy's most iconic destinations for 60 years, embodying the essence of the Italian dolce vita. It is the perfect getaway for discerning travelers and pleasure-seekers alike, just a quick two-hour drive from Rome—ideal for a weekend break.

In the 1960s, two lovers—a charismatic American socialite and a dashing British aviator—decided to create a private romantic hideaway in a secret cove of Monte Argentario, captivated by its sheer beauty and breathtaking views. Glamorous friends, from Hollywood royalty to Europe’s high society, flocked to the pristine azure sea to bask in the sun and party by moonlight. In 1965, this enchanting Tuscan residence was transformed into Il Pellicano.

In 1979, renowned businessman Roberto Sciò fell in love with the property and purchased it, ensuring that the warm and welcoming atmosphere was preserved. Today, his daughter Marie-Louise serves as the Creative Director and CEO of Pellicano Hotels Group, bringing her unique flair to the property’s combination of free-spirited charm and timeless elegance. Il Pellicano's discreet hideaway in Porto Ercole cascades down Monte Argentario into a cove of rare beauty, showcasing understated elegance, an abundance of little luxuries, and stunning sea views.

The exceptional ingredients of Tuscany come to life at their Michelin-starred restaurant - Ristorante Il Pellicano.Featuring dishes from land and sea – from pigeon to lobster and shrimps – the menu is innovative, ever-evolving, and impeccably delicious, showcasing the very best of Italy’s produce and ingredients.
