Il Tabacchificio Hotel - Sun, sea, and relaxation awaits you in the beautiful Salento. Il Tabacchificio is a beautifully refurbished icon of 1930s industrial design. This former tobacco factory has been thoughtfully transformed into an inspiring home and Villa hotel. Once bustling with activity, the property now serves as a serene and airy oasis of tranquility and style, featuring a rare, cathedral-like sense of space and peace. Following an extensive renovation, it has become a sought-after destination. Originally built in the 1930s, the factory employed around a hundred people, mostly women. At that time, the province of Lecce produced a quarter of Italy’s tobacco, making this facility one of the most significant in the region. As its name suggests, Il Tabacchificio was originally constructed as a tobacco factory during a period when smoking was quite fashionable, and Puglia produced nearly a third of Italy's tobacco. The current owners—a diplomat, his wife, and their three children—hired local architect Raffaele Centonze to transform the building into a family home that pays tribute to timeless Italian design.
The Tabacchificio Villa features a modern minimalist design with a monastic quality, showcasing polished concrete floors and 34 impressive, vaulted ceilings. Playful design elements like an oversized B&B Italia sofa and a giant rubberized Roman foot add charm and Instagram-worthy moments. The focus on communal areas creates a hotel-like atmosphere. Previously, Il Tabacchificio operated as a masseria, a traditional Puglian farmhouse repurposed as a bed and breakfast.

Each of the six bedrooms in the Tabacchificio villa feels like a suite, boasting en suite bathrooms, luxurious Italian linens, and apothecary toiletries. The garden features a 19-meter lap pool for cooling off during the hot Salento summer. There are many activities and fabulous cities nearby to visit such as Lecce and Otranto or Santa Maria di Leuca. There are many famous beaches nearby famous of the very fine sand called the Maldives of Salento: such as Pescoluse, Torre Pali, Posto Vecchio and Lido Marini.
